Genevieve going up the east route on Black MondayPhunk on the West route on Black MondayPhunk on the West route on Black MondaySo I got to go out with my buddy Phunk and his friend genevieve up to Big Cottonwood Canyon at the s-turns to do a route called Black Monday. Phunk told me it has some good views for sunset so thought I’d give it a go. We got up there, I got all setup and boom, there goes the sun! It dropped like a rock right about the time I thought it was going to be right. Oh well I was planning on using my strobes anyways. So I changed the plan a bit and we ended up working pretty late. Got some cool stuff, pretty happy considering it’s the 2nd time I’ve ever really shot climbing before.

Good to hear some of your thoughts Erik. Your flash work for the past three years has been an inspiration to me, many of the shots that show up in Freeskier have been tacked onto my wall. Funny to see your thought process online.. post processing old photos and delving into climbing. Almost like a mid-photog crisis, I’ve hit the same stride. Before the past month I had shot only primarily skiing.. in weeks I’ve shot climbing, more longboarding, surfing and mountain biking. At some point the ability level allows this to happen almost seamlessly. Cool to see how the style translates between sports.

    Cheers from a fellow photosnapographer.
