Powder Magazine Cover shot – October 2009

10Sep09

Powder Magazine Cover - October, 2009 - Skier: Tanner Hall - Location: Park City Mountain Resort, UT

This is the one I wondered if I’d ever get.  I’ve had covers outside of North America for a few years now and last season got my first one with SBC Skier Magazine out of Canada but still had yet to get one in the country I live in.  It became a running joke actually with some of my colleagues that I’m huge in Japan or whatever.  I didn’t think I’d get one for a while in the USA, especially Powder as most of what I shoot is really jib/freestyle heavy.  I found out about a month ago and it hadn’t really hit me as being that big of a deal until today.  This was literally a childhood dream.  I remember looking reading every Powder magazine that came through growing up and looking at the photos of Paul Morrison, Scott Markewitz, Lee Cohen, Hank DeVre, Mark Gallup, Wade McCoy and Mark Shapiro thinking about how cool it would be to have a photo of mine on the cover of Powder.

PDN Magazine Top Knots wedding photography merit award

02Apr09

Sarah and Cobey - PDN Magazine 2009 Top Knots Wedding Ceremony award winnerLast Summer before shooting Ashley and David’s wedding in Seattle I decided to take a second shooter gig with a Seattle based wedding photographer, Winnie Forbes at Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle, Washington.  It was a super fun one to shoot, Cobey and his groomsmen were a fun group and the medievil theme of the wedding was super fun to shoot.  Since I was the second shooter for this wedding, I spent a bit of time on the fringes of what was going on during the ceremony which let me take a lot of shots I otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to take since I’d be focused more on the traditional ceremony photos.  It was quite the media fest for this photo as both Winnie and Casey from Mindcastle Studios was shooting video as well while Sarah and Cobey were walking back down the asile which brought another element to this photo.Sarah and Cobey - PDN Magazine 2009 Top Knots Wedding Ceremony award winner

I just found out I recieved a merit award in the Cermonies category and will be in the upcoming issue of PDN (Photo District News) which is the “Top Knots” wedding issue.

Enlightened Art show in Toronto

17Jul08

Brian Garson left, Dano Pendygrasse rightSo this is the 2nd year of the Enlightened Art Show (previously ‘Gross Negligence) in Toronto, Ontario Canada. The show is purely action sports, from all realms of it, snow, ski, skate, surf, wake, bike, you name it it’s in there. The photos were put up in 16×20″ backlit light boxes and I wish I could see them. It’s one of the best formats for something like this, it’s the first art show I’ve been a part of and I am super stoked to be a part of it. I had one shot in it this year, basically the shot of the year for me from the 2006-2007 ski season. Fortunately a few people went to the Steam Whistle Brewery and took some photos of the setups.

Represented in the show (that I know) is Grant Gunderson, Owen Woytowich, Dano Pendygrasse, Brian Garson, Jonathan Kirby, Alija Bos, and myself. Thanks to Alija for taking a few photos of the lightboxes, I hope I get to see mine at some point!
