About the last thing I’d ever expected was to have a urban skiing photo in National Geographic. Well, that day has come and it’s a pretty cool one. It’s not in the magazine, it’s just their “Extreme Photo of The Week” but hey, I don’t care it’s just cool. This shot of Nick Martini at Powder Mountain during a Poor Boyz Productions shoot last season was recently in the January issue of Powder Magazine but National Geographic Adventure picked it up for their website.
Another making of the photo, I guess it’s pretty popular now huh?
This one is a bit different though, it’s a video with some of the action footage as well as an interview with the skier, Matt Walker. This was straight up video game shit. Sliding a lift cable. It’s one of those things I’ve wanted to shoot forever and figured it would never happen. Fortunately for me, I work with Pete Alport at Poor Boyz Productions. Pete likes to come up with crazy shit for pro skiers to do. This video was put together by Salomon as part of their Freeski TV series.
The Poor Boyz Productions world premiere of Every Day is a Saturday has come and one in Seattle, as has the Rage Films Salt Lake City premiere of Pretty Good. I had some prints up at both shows, thought I’d put a few pics of the prints up. It wasn’t anything super fancy but was nice to have my work up, and see it big. If the premiere of Every Day is a Saturday hasn’t come through your town yet and you want to see some of my shots big, then check out the premiere. I have four prints travelling with the PBP Triple Threat tour. For more information click here.
This is the one I wondered if I’d ever get. I’ve had covers outside of North America for a few years now and last season got my first one with SBC Skier Magazine out of Canada but still had yet to get one in the country I live in. It became a running joke actually with some of my colleagues that I’m huge in Japan or whatever. I didn’t think I’d get one for a while in the USA, especially Powder as most of what I shoot is really jib/freestyle heavy. I found out about a month ago and it hadn’t really hit me as being that big of a deal until today. This was literally a childhood dream. I remember looking reading every Powder magazine that came through growing up and looking at the photos of Paul Morrison, Scott Markewitz, Lee Cohen, Hank DeVre, Mark Gallup, Wade McCoy and Mark Shapiro thinking about how cool it would be to have a photo of mine on the cover of Powder.
The next installment of the teaser season brings “Every Day is a Saturday” by Poor Boyz Productions. PBP is one of the three film crews that I regularly work with, one that I spent about 3 weeks this Spring shooting with at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and at Mt. Bachelor, both in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. We shot a lot of pretty sick features this Spring, some of which is shit that you just thought went down in video games. Check out the teaser below.
So on the heels of getting the Rage Films “Such is Life” DVD box cover shot comes the Poor Boyz Productions Jib Jam DVD box cover. Poor Boyz Productions has been doing a spring terrain park shoot at Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho for the past 2 seasons now and is doing a seperate DVD from their main movie covering the entire shoot. I think it’s going to be pretty cool and of course I’m stoked that my photo is going to be on the box cover.
