A little bike ride around the neighborhood with the camera and the macro lens and found myself climbing a fence to take photos of an abandoned building.

I get a lot of photo requests for some uses that are far from normal but this is definitely a new one. I sold a few shots to Line Skis last season with a one-year unlimited license. It’s when you have those licenses out on your photos is where you see some different types of usages. Different, but pretty cool. I’ve never had a photo on an air freshener! This shot of Will Wesson was taken last winter with Level 1 Productions in my backyard of Salt Lake City, Utah. It’s in the most played urban skiing location, probably in the world. I somehow manage to get a shot every year from the Rail Gardens (Olympus Hills Park) due mainly to skiers getting creative and looking for a new spin on the same structures in the park.
Do you have a photo on an air freshener? You should!

This ad kind of summarizes my season from the start in November 2009 to the finish in July of 2010. It was a long season for me as I did extend it a little with the shoot at the Sammy Carlson Invitational in July at Windell’s Camp at Timberline, Oregon.
The highlight of this ad for me is the shot of Dane Tudor during the Sammy Carlson Invitational, right side, middle photo. It was my first experience with the Pocket Wizard FlexTT5′s for Nikon and things worked out well, very well, better than I had expected. I had just gotten the beta versions of the FlexTT5′s for Nikon and hadn’t had much time to really play with them so I was a bit worried to try them out but I gave them a go. The weather dealt us a full house that evening with the low clouds streaming in the valley from the west leaving an epic view with the low cloud layer and the sunset light. To top it off my first day testing the Pocket Wizard FlexTT5′s for Nikon turned out great. I had manual hypersync to two Elinchrom Ranger RX AS Speed strobes at 1/1000 sec. with partial coverage (all I wanted to light was the top half of the frame where the skier would be) at over 600 feet.
I’m really happy with how the Scott ad campaign came out this season and that I got to be a part of it last season. I’m looking forward to doing it again this season.

Saga Outerwear’s look book for the Fall 2010 line just came out. We did this shoot about a month ago out on the salt flats of the Great Salt Lake. I’ve been out there a ton but this is the first shoot I’ve actually done out there on my own. It was a pretty good time and happy with the shots with the crew of Saga’s athletes, Steve Stepp, Wiley Miller, Ryan Wyble, Andy Partridge and Scott Damon. The salt was wet, slimy and grimey as usual and the $20 spent washing the undercarrage of my truck after the fact was well worth it!

This was the second time I’ve had a chance to shoot tallbike jousting and this time around I was a bit more prepared for what to expect than the first. It’s one of the funnest events that I’ve had a chance to shoot, it’s action, rediculous (come on, jousting on tallbikes…really?), costumes and there’s no shortage of carnage. What more could you really ask for? We started out at Liberty Park and once everyone came together we all moved out to the location. I actually got a chance to get ahead to the location this time since I actually made it on time and then found out where we were going! Chalk one up to being prepared this time! Check out last year’s photos here.

I’ve decided to put on a last minute show during the premiere of this year’s Rage Films movie “Pretty Good” at the Skybox Bar and Grill in Salt Lake City, UT on Friday, September 18. I will have a collection of large action prints from 10″x15″, 16″x24″, 20″x30″ and a 24″x36″ on metal as well as a small collection of lifestyle shots that were all taken during the filming of the movie “Pretty Good” this past Winter. All the prints will be available for sale at very little markup from the actual cost to print and mount these photos from $50 for the 10×15′s, $75 for the 16×24′s, $100 for the 20×30′s and $230 for the 6-piece print hung on metal.

Have you ever heard of a Tall Bike? In the case you haven’t heard of or seen one, they are quite the site. Some friends of mine here in Salt Lake City, UT have made a few of them. You chop up a few bike frames and weld them together to form one real tall monstrosity of a bike. They are pretty damn cool actually!

So just another jaunt from Seattle, back home to Salt Lake City, Utah. This time around I had an even later start than normal, had to drive overnight, rolling in at about 11am in SLC. Hey at least I got to see someone road rage on me with his 10 year old daughter in the car! Also of course got to see the sunrise and of course snapped a few photos.
